French Lick Woah

During my hair searches, I found out there is an Antique Hair Museum in French Lick, IN. It looks so awesome that I may at some point in my life take a road trip to visit this magical place.

First let's take a look at this insane perm machine. A PERM MACHINE! This contraption looks like it could kill someone.

Next, let's discuss this thing called a hair watch.

I have no idea what exactly you do with a hair watch? Is this something you wear in your hair? Or is it just made of hair and its a watch you keep? I am so confused about this product. This is why I need to visit the museum.

Let's talk about what I wish I had. HAIR JEWELRY! These look so awesome that I am drooling with envy and wish I could raid this museum for my personal use.

And lastly, this awesome machine for finger weaves!! Wave-o-matic! That woman's hair looks awesome on the box - if only!

I am pretty jealous that this place exists and someone runs this place. It looks like a bunch of awesomely fun toys for hair and accessories.

Pet Peeve of the day is - that anytime I try to post links on this site, it hides the links so no one can see. It is becoming a real issue.

Ride that pony!

Three posts in two days!!! I know I cannot believe it either. During my buddy Rosanne's weekend travels, she saw this fine gem of a woman walking around with the most fake ponytail attachment I had ever seen. Feast your eyes on this number.

This is what I am talking about when I really want to understand people when they leave their home. What would make this hairstyle better? Two things. One - no ponytail attachment and Two - slicking back her short haired fro so it looks like the hair is actually going into the ponytail.

Why would someone do this? One obvious reason. She wants a long looking hairdo without the actual growing of her own hair. I get it. Sometimes I look in the mirror and want longer hair or shorter hair or curlier hair, etc. However, she is trying to pass this along as her real hair which obviously isn't.

One time at my old job, I had an older woman I worked with who did a similar thing. She did style her hair exactly to fit into this ponytail attachment but it was so obvious it wasn't hers but she was convinced it looked like her hair color and that it was part of her head.

Woof woof woof to the ponytail attachment.

Do thought - maybe something is wrong with this woman, and if that is the case I will feel bad, but most likely not. Someone intervene please.

More do thoughts...

I was just thinking that what makes me actually even remotely qualified to give suggestions to others regarding their hair care. Why didn't I become a stylist, or a colorist, or I don't even know. That's a good question. I guess I maybe should have done something in the hair field now that I think about it because while unfortunately I tend to be a little lost about what I am passionate about, I really do love talking about hair.

I didn't realize until a few years back how much I actually talked about hair and thought about hair, etc. That statement alone makes me sound completely vapid and boring, I agree. I have more to me, but that's not what I am here for.

I guess what I feel makes me qualified is I have probably have had every bad haircut known to man kind. Although I am proud to say that at 8 years old, I did know enough not to braid my mulleted hair in Jamaica. Something about a really chubby girl, with a mullet plus braids, was enough for me to finally make a decision that I am very glad I said no to until this day.

Let's go through my past do's. Mullet, permed mullet, bowl cut, regular spiral perms (for years and years), straight bangs with said spiral perm, the barbershop haircut from hell (thanks brother), the one inch all around my head (thanks Lisa from Clifton's worse salon right before my first day of college), razor cut asymetrical do, short bang do, really long, long bangs, razor cut, one length long long bangs, which leads me up to today's do, chin length short bob do with side swoop bangs.

I've done it all really. Some good, some bad, some very bad. I don't know how qualified I am or at all, but I love seeing how different everyone can look with a change of their hairstyle or color. It's quite interesting.

That being said, thanks to my lovely friends and family who have complimented my hair recently. It's the one thing I have seemed to do right lately. Merci (I am going to Paris, I will use this blog to practice my french!! no no I won't, I promise. But maybe an entry about hair in France is very possible!)

Spring Forward, Fall Back

Hey it's fall and it's time for me to come back and do what I love, and that is to talk about all things do-related.

My friend Rosanne sent me a text this afternoon that she had a pic for me to post on here, and I really have been neglecting this site, but no more my friends, no more.

I am currently watching the Emmy's and all there hair is fine enough as they all have stylists, and I won't bore you with how awesome everyone's hair is, because who really cares.

I stumbled upon this article on jezebel.com regarding how recently a black woman was denied service at a salon because they didn't know how to do her hair. Now with all things wrong and horrifying as that is and everyone knows that it is, I'd like to bring up some points.

First off, in this day and age, shouldn't you learn in a stylist school or whatever how to cut women of all races hair?? Just like you should know how to cut curly hair (which apparently is a task in itself), you should learn how to cut and style women of all races. I am not saying you will ever know how to do corn rows perfectly if you never knew how to do it, but to just cut a woman and/or man's hair should be a requirement.

This is the article I was referencing that I read.

It is a long read, but I think written well on how women feel about their hair and themselves in general.

It also discusses this woman feeling guilty because she had her hair straightened and shiny and that's not how her hair is naturally.

Everyone has their hair woes. People who have straight hair, want those bouncy waves they see on tv. Women with curly hair envy straight women's hair. There are weaves, extensions, clip on bangs, etc., that people use to achieve the look they want. And i for one have no problem with anyone trying to change their look for the better.

Let it stand on record that I love all kinds of hair, straight, wavy, curly, afros, awesome weaves, etc. Ok fine I will never like dreads. Does nothing for anyone. Sorry thats how I feel.

Oh which kind of off topic brings me to my most hated Match.com commercial. Yes its the one with the black guy with dreads who does a little twirl and is like "I like cheeseburgers" - or burgers whatever - its like what the funk? AND WILL THE TREND OF WEARING A FEDORA JUST DIE ALREADY!

Barf-o-rama.

Anyway, I'd like to end this by saying it is hard enough to be a woman, and everything around us is always trying to make us feel bad for not being born perfect. Whatever ladies you want to do with your hair, it's fine, just own that shit like you've never had before. (Oh and since my commentary is sometimes not the nicest for do's I am not into, it's more because I am just trying to understand the choices that people make).

BTW I am almost 30 and still gets zits, so I've got my own problems.
